Match Review: Leicester City (H)

A vital point against a Top-3 side in our fight against relegation (Full Time 0-0).

Since this is my first match review, I will keep it short so I can slowly have content in the blog. I will provide more detailed reviews in the future and explain more thoughts on the matches in the "Analysis" section.

This was a match that most, prior to lockdown, did not expect the Albion to get points from. Leicester City have greatly impressed this season under Brendan Rodgers, and could qualify for UCL football next season. However, as many Brighton fans and media have said, the lockdown was to our benefit.

An out-of-form Leicester side struggled to create much in the first half, with Soyuncu's header late on being the best chance. However, the lack of attack from Leicester was also attributed to a tactical genius from Potter. He employed four midfielders, closing down narrow and forcing Leicester to go wide with two strikers pressing continuously. As a result, James Maddison and Jamie Vardy were not as involved as they could have been.

Meanwhile, the Albion created a few chances of their own. A penalty conceded by James Justin (12') gifted Neal Maupay a golden opportunity to take us ahead. The penalty wasn't that bad, but he certainly gave Kasper Schmeichel a chance, which he took. That's how football can be, one week he scores the winner, the next he misses a penalty. A game of emotions. Later, Aaron Connolly also had a shot go just over the bar. Mooy also would drag a shot wide.

The second half saw Leicester make a few changes tactically, and as a result they established more control over the ball. Still, though, their finishing in front of goal wasn't exemplary, and Brighton didn't give them too many chances. Maddison had two shots, but both went over the bar. He also had a free kick that went over the bar. The Albion weren't able to generate many note-worthy chances either.

This game also saw Tarik Lamptey make his first start, a solid performance (Man-of-the-match). Alexis Mac Allister also started.

In the view of a Leicester supporter, this was two points lost. But to us Albion supporters, in a relegation battle this is an important point. Confidence is high and we could be able to take something from Manchester United if we continue this way.
