Originally signed by Chris Hughton, Kayal was a mainstay in the Championship alongside Dale Stephens.

The midfield duo was a big part of Albion's promotion to the top-flight.

He said in a social media post, “It was amazing to share those incredible scenes at the Amex when we clinched promotion and at the seafront parade. This is one of the best memories in my career so far, and will last with me forever."

Once reaching the Premier League, he largely was a substitute, with Davy Propper taking his place in midfield.

This season, he went on loan on to Charlton Athletic, and made six appearances for them. However, his loan was cut short due to injury.

He then returned to the Albion for the second half of the season (including lockdown), but did not feature in the Premier League.

With midfielders Stephens, Propper, Mooy, and Bissouma ahead of him in the pecking order, it was difficult receiving significant game time.

Kayal said in his final words, "I am extremely thankful to everyone at the club, and all of my teammates from over the years, some of whom have become part of my family and i’ll forever be grateful to the club for this."

"Last but not least I cannot thank the fans enough. You have made me and my family feel at home from the first minute, and Brighton will always feel like my home. With football there are always ups and downs and I had my fair share of injuries etc. but I always gave 100% effort."

"Brighton, you will always be in my heart and will always be my home. Good luck for the future and hopefully one day we will be reunited.”

He made a total of 118 appearances and scored four goals for the club.
